Very Poignent

I would like to commend the authors on a reflecting the way that organisations really work. I recognised a great deal of the scenarios that were presented from my personal experience.Of particular interest are the psychological traps that people can fall into by following quite laudable strategies. The authors give guidelines on strategies that will help avoid some of these pitfalls.The book starts slowly because the authors are building the case from a well argued foundation. Therefore the reader needs to persevere, but it is worth the effort. In any case the text is not too long.The reader will need other resources to develop the skills set needed to cope with office politics. However this text does provides the reassurance that skepticism of most management structures is well justified, and offers the reader a very practical roadmap to cope with that reality in the real world.

Disappointing

I thought this would be helping me in my work. But this book does not offer me anything new. I would have thought it would have included practical skills but it is very academic in style. I found it disappointing and expensive.

An absolute 'must read' - blows away all the myths

I loved this book! What David Butcher and Martin Clarke have achieved is a combination of insightful comment and practical tips that make this book a must read. This the first book I have read that gets beyond superficial office politics and gets you to think more about the whole role of politics in management, and what that means for day to day activities.
